Island Outpost Goldeneye was featured in the Travel section of the New York Times. An article titled “On a Tropical Rum Trail” raves about our Blackwell Rum drink named after the man who introduced the world to Bob Marley, our owner, Chris Blackwell.  The author describes the Blackwell Rum bottle to resemble “old-tyme pirate – with the yellow label, baroque lettering”.  He was pleasantly welcomed with open arms and a glass of the caramel flavored rum to our posh beachfront cottage. When talking with Mr. Blackwell, the New York Times author inquired about how he prefers to enjoy his Blackwell Rum. “I drink it neat, and sometimes atop a nice fruit salad,” he said. Blackwell Rum is the very first endeavor that Chris has put his name on and is made by Appleton which is now owned by the Jamaican rum company Blackwell’s grandfather once ran called J. Wray & Nephew.

The New York Times author characterizes Goldeneye as “matrix-like- a perfect marriage of barefoot funkiness and elegance.” He writes about our “album-art walls and a soundtrack that veers from Bob Marley to U2” and describes “a footbridge over the lagoon that is torch-lit, illuminating the path to fine dining.” Before going onto the next leg of his rum trail the author made sure he took in all Goldeneye has to offer and beautifully illustrated his experience with us. “Transcendent outdoor showers under a half-moon; sublime swims in the lazy lagoon, escorted by flying fish and butterflies, Blackwell Rum was at the heart of it all. By day I sipped it with watermelon and ginger, meditating on the way the sunlight pirouettes off a golden-eye mosaic in the pool; by night it marinated my lobster and coconut rum.”
