Oracabessa Foundation

The Foundation was established in 1995 by Christopher Blackwell, Chairman of Island Jamaica and is a limited liability nonprofit organization. The mission of the Foundation is to serve as a catalyst for the sustainable development of the town of Oracabessa and its environs and has been recognized by several organizations for its work.

The town of Oracabessa is in dire need of improvements, namely: improved skills, additional housing, an updated town center, adequate water supply and drainage system and the development of a civic structure including basic infrastructure and education.

Goals and Objectives of the Foundation
The main objective of the foundation is to foster leadership, independence and responsibility among the citizens of Oracabessa and to encourage and aid sustainable development that benefits the community by:

1. Assisting or establishing and operating educational, environmental, health and recreational facilities and programs within the community

2. Enhancing the awareness of the community of its cultural heritage, history and environment while developing mechanisms to protect and preserve these important assets for future generations

3. Entrepreneurship; particularly through electronic commerce as use of this medium can propel growth through access to commercial intelligence and by speedy and efficient business promotion.
