The 4th Annual Strawberry Hill "High Stakes" Backgammon Tournament is scheduled for the weekend of April 24-26, 2009. This unique event centered around the classic game of backgammon will have a maximum of 32 entrants who will be participate for over J$2.0M (approx. US$20,000) in cash & prizes. Entry fee is US$500 of which 85% is returned to winners in cash prizes. Cash prizes are awarded up to 6th place. Throughout the weekend, players will enjoy delectable foods and a selection of premium liquors and rums, which will be included in the registration fee.
The three-day event kicks off on Friday evening with a welcome cocktail party and registration at the boutique hotel’s newly refurbished ‘Living Lounge.’ The tournament play will commence at 10:00am sharp on Saturday, April 25th and last into the EARLY evening.
During the day, there will also be an exciting art exhibit from British Pop Artist, Peter Gee and the Impressionist painter Sophia Arts, as well as students from the Edna Manley School and other local artists. Local vendors will adorn the lawns with flower stalls and custom soft furnishings available for sale. The public is invited to spend the day watching the games and participating in the festivities, which will also include a high tea before the sun goes down.
In the evening players and guests will gather in the Jade Courtyard to dine on a 4-course meal and enjoy live jazz music. The tournament concludes on Sunday, April 26th at 4:30pm followed by an exciting prize-giving ceremony.
