Strawberry Hill – a luxurious, mountaintop retreat in the heart of Jamaica’s Blue Mountains – offers Fifth Night Free for travel through December 15, 2005

JAMAICA – September 13, 2005 – Strawberry Hill, the luxurious mountaintop retreat part of record-mogul Chris Blackwell’s unique Island Outpost collection of hip hideaways in Jamaica and The Bahamas, announces its new “Fifth Night Free” promotion.

Valid for travel through December 15, 2005, guests earn one free night when they pay for four nights. Rates range from $355 for a deluxe, one-bedroom villa to $675 for a two-bedroom villa. Rates include full breakfast daily. Children under 12 are free when sharing a room with two adults. Rates do not include a 10% service charge. Promotion is valid on Sunday-Thursday arrivals.

Set on a former coffee estate, Strawberry Hill offers sweeping views of Jamaica’s Blue Mountains and the Caribbean Sea, all bathed in the lush mountain mists. Twelve airy cottages, cluster beside the Caribbean’s only Aveda Concept Spa, located at the resort embodying a commitment to wellness and beauty. The integration of Strawberry Hill’s lush tropical gardens and winding trails with the AVEDA® Concept Spa provide the optimum environment for your journey into a sense of well being–nature in harmony with humanity. Wood-shingled and gracious, the architecture reflects the original nineteenth-century buildings that once stood here with cooling louvers, ceiling fans, fretwork and gables. Hammocks and rockers stand on the verandahs. Hardwood floors and mahogany furniture – handcrafted on the premises – complete the genteel ambiance.

Bob Marley convalesced here after being shot. And U2 ducked out of the limelight at this retreat. The musicians chose wisely: this serene aerie is so stunning that Conde Nast Traveler declared that the location –

3,000 feet up the Blue Mountains – beggars description.

The site of a working plantation since the late 1700s (growing coffee and a variety of fruits, including strawberries), the property became well-known in the 1940s and 50s for its Sunday Tea. It was acquired in 1972 by Chris Blackwell, who had often come to the property for this weekly affair. Set on a former coffee estate, Strawberry Hill offers sweeping views of the peaks and sea, all bathed in the lush mountain mists.

Newly expanded gardens showcase over 350 species. A 60-foot negative-edge swimming pool, nature trails, birdwatching expeditions and mountain bikes help guests connect with the intense natural beauty of this fertile region, famous the world over for its strong, smooth coffee blends.

All rooms and cottages are delicately planted on the lower slope, thus ensuring complete privacy. The Aveda Concept Spa occupies a private corner with a scenic outlook. A sauna and plunge pool enhance this complex, hailed as one of the top 40 spas worldwide by Jo Foley’s guidebook Great Spa Escapes. Treatments include nurturing blanket wraps, customized full body
massage, scalp stimulations, manicures, pedicures, exfoliations, hydrotherapies and a Himalayan rejuvenation, based on ancient Ayurvedic techniques. An aromatherapy steam plume – of personally tailored plant essences – massages the area directly between your eyes, integrating the body and mind.

Strawberry Hill’s menu also stretches towards the sublime, pairing Jamaican and international flavors. Signature dishes include island pepper pot soup; baked stuffed crab backs with tropical fruit salsa; steamed snapper with coconut-scented rice and wilted callaloo; and jerk-style lamb rack served with potato puree and a guava lamb reduction.

It’s no wonder Fodor’s called it, “Refined luxury with absolute peace.” This 50-acre mountaintop retreat, wrapped in luminous mist, is ideal for the traveler seeking tranquility and peace in a sophisticated setting.
