Jamaica | Where Bob Marley and U2 Fell In Love With Nature

Enjoy a Sensory Journey to Strawberry Hill Living in Jamaica

New Packages offer body treatments, tours that discover the culture of the land, and the key to your inner sense of well-being

JAMAICA – February 15, 2006 – Bob Marley found his inspiration to write “Natural Mystic Blowing Through the Air.” U2, known for choosing the hippest hangouts, ducked out of the limelight here. These musicians knew exactly where they were going: to an aerie so stunning that Conde Nast Traveler declared that “the location—3,000 feet up the Blue Mountains—beggars description.”

The site of a working plantation since the late 1700s (growing coffee and a variety of fruits, including strawberries), the property became well known in the 1940s and 50s for its Sunday Tea. In 1972, record mogul Chris Blackwell, who had often stopped by for this traditional afternoon libation, acquired the property and added it to his exclusive portfolio of resorts at Island Outpost.

Set on a former coffee estate, Strawberry Hill’s twelve airy cottages offer sweeping views of the peaks and sea, all bathed in the lush mountain mists. Designed by Ann Hodges, the gracious wood-shingled architecture reflects the original nineteenth-century buildings that once stood here with cooling louvers, ceiling fans, fretwork and gables. Hammocks and rockers stand on the verandahs. Hardwood floors and mahogany furniture—handcrafted on the premises—complete the genteel ambiance. There’s even wireless Internet. In 1997, the property received the Governor General Architect Award for “Best Designed Resort” and “Best Overall Design for Building”.

Among its many attributes, Strawberry Hill boasts the Caribbean’s only AVEDA® Spa. The property has just released new packages, a work of collaboration between the resort and AVEDA®. The result is Strawberry Hill Living, a carefully designed complete spa and rejuvenation regimen. The root of AVEDA®’s holistic spa philosophy, Elemental Nature, is based on the five elements found in nature (and within each of us): Infinity, Air, Fire, Water and Earth. Before each service, the guest is asked to complete the AVEDA® Elemental Nature Questionnaire, which allows our therapists to create personalized treatments and self-care rituals based on the each person’s Elemental Nature, to bring him or her back into balance.

Find your inner element with one of the following packages valid throughout the year:
